Every year, thousands of people give their time to help us achieve our vision; a world where butterflies and moths thrive and can be enjoyed by everyone, forever. We would not be the organisation we are without the support of our volunteer community, and are committed to supporting our volunteers, who make a huge difference to butterflies and moths in the UK.

Why Volunteer With Us?

  • Make a difference for butterflies, moths and people in your local area.
Rachel Jones and volunteer Harry - Caroline Bulman
  • Meet people with similar interests, working towards a common goal across the UK.
  • Learn more about butterflies and moths.
  • Develop skills and experience in a professional environment.
  • Access training for your role.
  • Access wider learning opportunities and resources.
  • Receive support from your Key Contact.
  • Request a reference from us.*
  • Claim expenses incurred while volunteering with us.

If you’re not able to volunteer for us but would still like to make a difference, why not create a Wild Space, take part in the Big Butterfly Count, support our latest campaign or tell us about the butterflies and moths you’ve seen.  Or, if you’re a student, why not join our University Moth Challenge? We also have lots of events taking place around the UK and your local Branch can tell you about other activities which are happening in your area, such as guided walks and talks.

* References on request and confirm the dates you volunteered, and the role(s) you held.  Unfortunately we are unable to provide a character reference.  References available to registered volunteers only.
