We cannot conserve butterflies and moths unless we know where they live.

Butterfly Conservation's work to record and map the distribution and abundance of butterflies and moths is at the heart of our efforts to conserve these wonderful insects, especially the rarest and most vulnerable species.marsh fritillary in flower meadow

With the information we gather we can:

  • concentrate our efforts where the need is greatest
  • safeguard and protect vulnerable sites from development and damage
  • asses the impact of climate change
  • lobby governement to fund future conservation and introduce new policy to protect wildlife

And yet, despite the importance of recording in conservation, very few funders are willing to contribute to the ongoing cost of this crucial work.

Armies of dedicated volunteers carry out most of the recording and we employ a small team of expert staff, to coordinate their efforts and analyse the data they collect - over 12 million records to date!

Please will you help put butterflies on the map by making a donation to support Butterfly Conservation's recording work?

You can donate online by credit or debit card using the form on the right or set up a regular donation on our direct debit page. If you would prefer to send a cheque then print and complete this donation form and post it back to us.
