The Red Data Book presents the first comprehensive review of the status of butterflies across Europe, and a new Red List for the 576 resident species
Threatened butterflies
The report was compiled from a network of over 50 compilers from almost every country.
Analysis showed that a 71 species are threatened. This is largely due to rapid changes in land-use and the intensification of agriculture and forestry.
A further 43 species are classed as near threatened.
