There are many ways in which you can get involved in our work.
Surveys & Monitoring
Current priorities are all of the UK Biodiversity Action Plan species, but especially
Butterflies:
Chequered Skipper, Dingy Skipper, Marsh Fritillary, Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Small Blue and Large Heath (in the lowlands)
Moths:
Dark Bordered Beauty, Forester, Kentish Glory, Narrow-bordered Bee Hawkmoth, Northern Dart, Slender Scotch Burnet and Small Dark Yellow Underwing
If you can help with survey or monitoring these species and/or their habitats, please get in touch.
Practical habitat management work
The number of sites where we are involved carrying out practical work is increasing:
Wester Moss, Stirling - our workparties involve pulling up young pine and building dams on our peatland nature reserve.
We hope to soon be working on more peatland sites in the central belt.
We are also involved in a long-term project to tackle invasive, non-native cotoneaster from a Slender Scotch Burnet site on Mull.
(Work on our two reserves at Mabie Forest and Loch Arkaig is currently carried out by Forest Enterprise).
Please get in touch to find out details of our next volunteer workparty, or check our Events page.
Helping at Shows
Please contact your regional Branch to see if you can help at any other shows or similar events.
Doing talks and helping at events
Please contact your regional Branch to see if you can help at any events (e.g. moth trapping) or similar events.
Please get in touch with the Stirling office or your Branch if you can offer to do talks on behalf of Butterfly Conservation Scotland.
Volunteer Handbook
If you are new to our work then our volunteer handbook is here to help you get started. Or maybe you need to know where to get a butterfly net or who to send your records to? Its all in our recently-updated Volunteer Handbook!
We would be keen to hear if you find it useful, or what else it should contain. Please send your comments to our Stirling Office.
THANK YOU!
