Join us for a field session to practise your identification skills for summer butterflies and day-flying moths. This will take place at Aston Rowant NNR: A ‘flagship’ National Nature Reserve, managed by Natural England. It lies on the north-west scarp of the Chiltern Hills, overlooking the Vale of Oxford. The reserve supports one of the best examples of steep chalk downland in our area, with a very special flora and some special butterflies.
The focus will be on building your confidence in the accurate separation of common species from scarce species, not a long species list. However, we will check to see if we can find the Silver-spotted Skipper and other chalk grassland specialists.
You will get the most out of this event if you have attended Nick Bowles’ online Zoom training on the key points of Identification (4th July), Booking here: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/89476278844?pwd=nHkorai1uSfkhmBTuGBvRDTuTiiq7J.1 Meeting ID: 894 7627 8844 Passcode: 080781
You are welcome to bring a picnic and chat about all things butterfly, moth and conservation over lunchtime.
Accessibility & risks: steep, strenuous slopes, narrow paths, rabbit holes and other trip hazards. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks. (Tick advice)
