Moth Night, the annual celebration of moths and moth recording, is organised with Atropos and Butterfly Conservation in association with the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the wonderful world of moths.

Enthusiasts across the UK switch on their lamps, record moths and organise public events. In years where there is a daytime element, it is perfect for seeing day-flying moths and moth caterpillars on guided walks.

The focus for 2016 was Hawk-moths, some of the largest, fastest and most colourful moths found in the UK. From garden favourites such as the Elephant Hawk-moth to conservation priorities such as the Narrow-bordered Bee Hawk-moth and scarce immigrants such as the Striped Hawk-moth. This year, Moth Night took place on 12-14 October, with the main theme of Ivy.

Any sightings of moths are very important and will be most welcome. Discover how to get involved, submit your sightings and find out about events near you at www.mothnight.info.
