Making a will

Breadcrumbs

The prospect of making a Will may seem daunting. However, the proceses involved are simple and by taking action now, you can be sure that the people and causes you care for will benefit.

You should contact a solicitor, who will advise you on what steps you need to take when writing your Will.

If you would like to leave a gift to Butterfly Conservation, there are three main types you can make:

Residuary Gift

  • This is where you leave all or part of the value of your estate once all other legacies and liabilities have been paid. It is the most effective gift you can make whilst ensuring that your family and friends are also provided for.

Pecuniary Gift

  • This is a gift for a particular sum of money.

Gift in Kind

  • This is a gift of a specified item, such as painting.

You might find the following form of words useful as a suggestion to give to your solicitor.

"I give all (or a ___% share) of the residue of my estate to Butterfly Conservation (Registered Charity No. 254937), Manor Yard, East Lulworth, Wareham, Dorset BH20 5QP, for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or duly authorised officer shall be a valid and appropriate form of discharge."
