There are 2,500 species of moth in the UK. Many of these have suffered huge declines in recent years
Saving Britain's Moths
Moths are not just beautiful. They are part of the food chain and essential for the survival of Britain's birds, bats and mammals. Founded in 1999, The Action for Threatened Moths Project puts into action the Government's plans to secure a future for the UK's endangered moths.
Aims
- Survey and monitoring of threatened moths and investigating their habitat requirements so conservation work can be targeted where it is most needed
- Talking with site owners and land managers to raise awareness of the need to conserve moths and their habitats
- Keeping conservation or land management organisations up-to-date on the status of, and methods for conserving, our threatened moths
- Increasing the involvement of volunteers and other organisations in priority moth work
- Co-ordinating work being undertaken to conserve moths
- Raising awareness of moths and moth conservation issues
