Jim AsherBackground in technology and intellectual property sectors, including business experience at board-level. Joined BC in 1982. Chaired group responsible for the Millennium Atlas. Special interest in recording and photographing butterflies and their landscapes.

David Hanson - Honorary Treasurer

David HansonFormer investment manager at Prudential. Expertise in finance and administration. “Love of butterflies came via childhood friend whose father was keen Lepidopterist.”

 


 

Maurice Avent

Maurice AventFormer owner of successful utility contractor business. Manages own SSSI 100-acre down-land valley as reserve for Wiltshire Trust for Nature Conservation.

 

 

 

Peter Bradbury

WISE are focused on working with disengaged individuals in the employment market place and have been established, in the UK, by a similar, well established, Australian organization. Enjoyed deep interest in butterflies since childhood.

Andrew BrownOwned and managed a design and contracting business. Holds the ICSA Certificate in Charity Management and is an active member of the Charity Law Association. Has volunteered many hours to charity governance for environmental causes.

 


Roger Dobbs

Roger DobbsFormer trustee at The Wildlife Trusts, with a background in research and development for a global pharmaceutical company. A volunteer reserve warden of Bowdown Woods in Berkshire, where he has carried out a butterfly transect for the last 25 years.

Jenny Mallett

Jenny MallettLived and worked on mixed farm all her life. Closely involved in restoration of chalk down-land at Butterfly Conservation’s reserve at Magdalen Hill Down, Winchester.

 

Dr Ian Small                                                            

Ian SmallAn active member of Butterfly Conservation for over 20 years and Vice-Chair of Butterfly Conservation for eight years from 1991. As Vice-Chair was responsible for acquisition of major nature reserves, notably Catfield Fen and Upper Hill Farm and produced the Society’s very first business plan.

 

Dr Simon Spencer            

Dr Simon SpencerHas lived on an organic smallholding in Wales for more than 30 years and has worked as an entomologist and computer programmer. Interested in butterflies since childhood.

 

 

Sue Smith

Sue SmithChair of Gloucestershire Branch of Butterfly Conservation for the last five years. A long history of volunteering with many organisations and charities. Interest in butterflies and moths stems from Duke of Burgundy project on Rodborough common and has become a life-long fascination.

Neil ThompsonFormer director of computer systems consultancy. Has provided BC with IT help re the collection and organisation of various data. “Passionate interest in Lepidoptera.”

Mark Young“Interested in butterflies and moths for 45 years.” In 1997 published The Natural History of Moths. Lives Aberdeenshire. Has led many moth-nights in Scotland.
