The High Brown Fritillary has one colony left, making it Wales' rarest butterfly
High Brown Brackenlands
Butterfly Conservation staff and volunteers, assisted by Glamorgan Heritage Coast staff, have worked hard to improve only site in Wales where the High Brown Fritillary is found. Much of it is now fenced and grazed by ponies.
The effort has paid off – there has been a tenfold increase in High Brown Fritillary numbers over the past four years.
Work is now in hand as bracken management and scrub clearance continues on nearby sites, so that the High Brown Fritillary could colonise.
A part-time project officer liaises with landowners, commoners, graziers and other stakeholders.
