Where to see Scotland's special butterflies and moths

Breadcrumbs

Scotland has one species of butterfly not found anywhere else in the UK - the Chequered Skipper, and many species of moth, including Kentish Glory, 3 species of burnet and several montane species. Scotland is also the UK stronghold for numerous other species. Here is a small selection of excellent sites where (with luck!) they may be seen.

Several of these sites are National Nature Reserves (NNRs). There is more information on these here.

Many more sites are listed in our regional identification guides which can be found here.
