Recording butterflies - Butterfly survey.Photo: Katie Cruickshanks, Butterfly Conservation. The annual gathering of butterfly recorders, transect walkers, research scientists, conservationists and butterfly enthusiasts is one of the most enjoyable and interesting events in the Butterfly Conservation calendar. As well as talks from senior Butterfly Conservation staff about the progress of recording and monitoring projects, there will be guest speakers, discussion sessions and plenty of time to relax and chat over a buffet lunch with fellow enthusiasts. The day will start with a special meeting of BNM Local Co-ordinators/Branch Recorders.

This year we are very fortunate to have Professor Jeremy Thomas among our guest speakers. There will be talks about landscape-scale conservation projects for butterflies, the relevance of nature reserves in a warming world and updates on recording and conservation activities from across Britain and Ireland. The meeting will provide the first preview of the UKBMS transect results for 2011.

Advance booking is required and there is a registration fee of £5 per person, made on the day, to help cover the costs of venue hire, tea/coffee and buffet lunch.
