Welcome

We're making learning fun!

We hope there is something for everyone in our Learn website!

You can explore the wonderful world of butterflies and moths here, and discover more about their biology, their life cycles, how they fit into the web of life and how we can help to conserve them for future generations. There are competitions and quizzes to take part in and you can send us your best butterfly and moth pics for our photo gallery.

Teachers: Visit our Teachers' Resources page to find out how the sections of our Learn website can fit in with your teaching scheme and the national curriculum. To extend your knowledge of butterflies and moths and their lifecycles, go to the Introduction for Teachers to the Life-cycles. Browse the downloadable activity sheets for ideas and inspiration. The Images to print section offers colourful photos of some of our most dramatic Butterflies and Moths for children to use for illustrating projects, decoration or other classroom activities.

Children: The games and puzzles in our Play and Learn section are a great way to find out more about butterflies and moths.

Nick Baker, naturalist, broadcaster and a Vice-President of Butterfly Conservation, says:

Nick Baker"For anybody with an interest in Butterflies and Moths, from the early instars of human life through to those imagos that teach them, this is an invaluable website. It gives great guidance and provides an easy to use resource for teachers, with the added bonus of suggested links to the national curriculum.

There are also loads of simple educational games that will help the younger generation get to grips with the basics of butterfly and moth ecology and identification. With a recent survey suggesting that over a third of kids are unable to identify a Red Admiral, this site is a really good first step towards putting this right!"
