Moths Count holds regular national conferences for moth recorders in the UK. These meetings provide a great opportunity to hear about progress with the project and the National Moth Recording Scheme, meet fellow recorders and share moth recording experiences.

UK Moth Recorders' Meeting

Our seventh UK Moth Recorders’ meeting was held on 28 January 2017 at the Birmingham and Midland Institute and, as always, it was a great day and everyone enjoyed themselves and the presentations. We heard:

  • an update on the National Moth Recording Scheme
  • an account on the intrepid adventures of two micro-moth recorders
  • developments in moth taxonomy and cryptic species
  • moths in bird's nests
  • the status of the Dark-Bordered Beauty in England
  • using stable isotopes to track insect migration
  • how hedgerow mangement can benefit moths

In addition to this, Michael McCarthy gave an emotive presentation based on his book The Moth Snowstorm.

Thank you to everyone who attended this event and contributed to its success.

Plans are being made for next year's UK Moth Recorders' Meeting, with a provisional date set for Saturday 27 January 2018 and at the same venue - further details will be available in due course.
