For a limited time only, your donation has TWICE the impact. Help Butterfly Conservation protect the future of the Large Heath from our changing climate.

Large Heath - Paul Daubney

£5 doubled to £10

could help us determine the quality of each surveyed site by recording numbers of foodplants or levels of drought.

BC Volunteers

£15 doubled to £30

could help build relationships with landowners to ensure awareness of the importance of their land.

Large Heath - Tim Melling

£50 doubled to £100

could help recruit and train volunteers to collect data and maintain ongoing monitoring.

Twyford Workparty (John Davison) 180323 (5)

£150 doubled to £300

could help take remedial actions such as blocking ditches, modifying grazing and removing scrub.

How will my donation help?

Large Heath habitats are showing signs of deterioration mainly due to vegetation changes caused by our shifting climate. Their sites are also in remote locations where monitoring data is difficult to collect, this means that most information is now outdated.

It is now a priority of Butterfly Conservation to gather new evidence on the effects climate change is having on the Large Heath, so that we can put plans in place to mitigate risks before it’s too late and the decline of this beautiful species goes too far.

Your donation will help us:

  • Confirm the current distribution of the Large Heath.
  • Determine habitat quality of each surveyed site by recording numbers of foodplants and nectar sources as well as negative indicators (drought, scrub etc).
  • Take remedial action such as blocking ditches, modifying grazing, and removing scrub etc.
  • Build relationships with landowners to ensure awareness of the importance of their land.
  • Recruit and train volunteers to collect data and maintain ongoing monitoring.

DOUBLE MY IMPACT TODAY

The effects of climate change could be devastating.  We must act now to make a real difference before it’s too late.

Our shifting climate is changing the vegetation in Large Heath habitats and fears are that it’s beloved damp bogs and moorland could be drying up. But because habitats are remote, monitoring data is difficult to collect, and the majority of current information is outdated. We must urgently collect new data that allows us to plan remedial actions against climate change if we are to secure the Large Heath’s future.

Double the impact your donation has between 21 June and 30 June. Help us protect the future of the Large Heath for future generations to enjoy.
