Join us for a trip to Bernwood Forest: once part of a Royal Hunting forest of Bernwood. This Forestry England extensive woodland contains areas of broadleaved woodland, many wide rides, ponds and glades which support a rich flora and fauna. It is one of the best sites for woodland butterflies in the country.

Nearly 40 butterfly species have been recorded in these woods. We will explore the tracks and paths searching for some of the target species: Purple Hairstreak, Silver-washed Fritillary, White Admiral and, if we are lucky, the magnificent Purple Emperor.

You are welcome to bring a picnic and chat about all things butterfly, moth and conservation over lunchtime.

Accessibility & risks: mainly wide, surfaced tracks, but we may

wander off onto a narrower muddier one as well. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks. (Tick advice)
