Join us on a trip to BBOWT's Bernwood Meadows Nature Reserve: these traditional hay meadows brimming with wild flowers and insects are a magnificent sight in spring and early-summer. Over 100 species of flowering plants and some special butterflies can be found here.
We will walk across from the FE car park, looking for butterflies, and other wildlife, on the way. When we reach the meadows we will spend some time searching the hedgerows for a special butterfly. Target species: Black Hairstreak and other butterflies of the meadows and woods.
The leader will remain on site to enjoy the views and his packed lunch. If you would like to join them and make this a bit more of a social occasion: please bring along your own packed lunch, a drink and perhaps a rug to sit on. We can chat about all things butterfly, day-flying moth, the work of UTB and how you might help out.
Accessibility - mostly level ground, can be soft after rain. The track we will walk on is rutted and can be muddy.
Meet at the FE Oakley Wood car park.
