An Upper Thames Branch Guided Walk at Watlington Hill, led by Peter Philp

Join us for a trip to the National Trust’s Watlington Hill: discover ‘an Oxfordshire dreamscape’ as you walk to the top of Watlington Hill and discover fine views over the Oxford Plain. A top-quality downland with dense Yew woodland and a rich chalk grassland flora that supports over 25 species of butterflies.

We will search the hillside for its summer grassland butterflies, including scarce and special species, as well as looking out for a range of other wildlife. Target species: Silver-spotted Skipper, Chalk Hill Blue, Brown Argus and other grassland species.

You are welcome to bring a picnic and chat about all things butterfly, moth and conservation over lunchtime.

Accessibility & risks: steep, strenuous slopes, rabbit holes and some trip hazards. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks. (Tick advice)
