This is our ‘flagship’ event of the year based at the fabulous RSPB Leighton Moss Reserve in the morning and at National Trust Arnside Knott in the afternoon. We would love our members to attend this event but it is also open to friends and family and all who love butterflies, moths and the countryside.

The day’s programme will be

09.15-10.00……looking at our overnight ‘catch’ of moths at RSPB Leighton Moss……bring your camera for some great pictures before they are released.

10.00-10.15 Coffee/tea/squash/biscuits in the Holt Room at Leighton Moss.

10.15-11.00 Dr. Rosa Menendez from Lancaster University will review her recent research and look at current and possible future student research projects.

11.15-11.30 Refreshment break.

11.30-12.00. Jules Simons will look at doctorate research into the habitat preferences of the Cumbrian High Brown Fritillary.

12.00-12.15 Chris Winnick will review recent butterfly records in Cumbria.

12.15-12.45. The 2023 AGM for Cumbria branch members

12.45-13.45. Lunch, either bring your own packed lunch or use the excellent café facilities on site. Even time for a little bird spotting!

14.00-16.30 Meet in the National Trust car park at Arnside Knott for a guided walk by Craig McCoy, theHead Warden and Chris Winnick.  Target species are early Scotch Argus, late High Brown Fritillary and Brown Hairstreak. The views are superb!
