This training day is an exciting opportunity to learn about Dumfries and Galloway’s coastal butterflies, with a special focus on the rare Northern Brown Argus (NBA). The training day is being run as part of Species on the Edge which aims to survey and monitor colonies and habitats of NBA at sites along the Solway Coast.

The indoor morning session will begin with an introduction to recording butterflies and moths on the Solway. Attendees will then receive expert tutorage on the survey techniques for NBA including identification, distribution and survey rationale.

The morning session will be followed by a field-trip to Brighouse Bay where we will practice skills and see a range of species in the field, likely to include Northern Brown Argus.

Following this event, there will be an opportunity for attendees to sign up as volunteers and be allocated priority sites within the region to survey during the summer.
