Large Heath Free Online Training Workshop

Tuesday 6th June 7.00pm - 8.00pm

The Large Heath is a specialist of wet, boggy peatlands in northern Britain, Ireland and a few isolated sites in Wales and central England. Historically peatlands have been overlooked as a habitat, resulting in the drainage of lowland raised bogs for agriculture, afforestation and commercial peat extraction. Such habitat loss has led to this species declining, especially in England and Wales. Scotland remains a relative stronghold for the species in the UK, but with many lowland raised bogs being in unfavourable condition in Scotland, we are keen to gather a better picture of how Large Heath is faring across this habitat.

Aim

The aim of the online workshop is to encourage attendees to carry out targeted surveys this year for Large Heath at locations where the butterfly has not been recorded for some years.

The workshop will provide information on identification, distribution, ecology and survey methods.

Booking

The workshop is free and anyone can attend, however, booking is essential as details on how to access the Online Zoom Virtual Workshop will only be sent to those that register an interest. Full instructions on how to join the meeting will be sent out to those new to Zoom.

For anyone who cannot attend on the day, we can make a recording of the workshop available. It is advisable to join the zoom room a few minutes before the start of the workshop in case of any last-minute technical difficulties.
