NOTE: Booking is essential as places are limited for this event.

We will be searching for eggs of the Brown Hairstreak butterfly on blackthorn scrub. No previous experience is necessary, in fact this event is intended to introduce you to this absorbing aspect of our hobby. Salisbury Plain and its surrounds is a stronghold for the Brown Hairstreak and locating its eggs aids in establishing its distribution. Learning how to locate the eggs will encourage you to look for them on blackthorn in your own area. You never know - there may be undiscovered colonies on your doorstep!

Bring lunch if you wish. Useful items to have are lightweight protective gloves to protect against thorns, a small magnifying glass, and a tape measure which shouldn't need to measure any more than 2 metres. If you don't have the latter two items, don't worry as the event leaders will have them.

The going is reasonably easy with just gentle slopes and decent walking boots should be adequate. Obviously dress for the expected weather!

Location: Meeting point: Adjacent to Silk Hill Plantation, SPTA(E).

Directions: Take Milston Road, which runs between Bulford and Netheravon. Turn right if coming from Bulford, left if from Netheravon, onto the Southern Transit Route at the tank crossing. Follow for about 1.5 miles until you reach a red pyramid-shaped structure by the junction of several byways. We will park here at SU 1844 4710 (Map 184). what3words: ///fortunes.spoils.unzipped.
