An opportunity to explore this wood, close to the border with Somerset. Bring lunch, finish time 1.30 to 2pm.

Location: Meet in the lay by at the bottom of the hill on the A36 from Warminster to Bath at ST 827 493 (Map 183). It is then a short walk up the grass verge at the side of the road to the wood entrance gate. Care is needed since the traffic speeds down the hill. what3words: ///briskly.compress.perfected.

Target Species: Silver washed Fritillaries, White Admirals and other woodland butterflies and dragonflies. Purple Emperor has been seen occasionally in the wood in recent years.

Directions: The lay by is only safely accessed from the northbound side of the A36. Approaching from Bath you will need to pass the meeting point and then at the top of the hill turn left onto the A3098. Keep turning successively left until you re-join the A36 northbound carriageway and can go down the hill to the layby meeting point.
