This wild downland area is close to the site of the Battle of Roundway and Roundway Iron Age Hillfort. The down faces east making it ideal for an afternoon visit. The site has spectacular views across the surrounding countryside as well as the interesting topology of the escarpment.

Target Species: This is a very good site for Chalkhill Blue and Dark Green Fritillary both of which occur in good numbers in the right conditions. Other species to look out for are Marbled White, Common Blue, Ringlet, Wall Brown. Gatekeeper, Painted Lady, Red Admiral, Peacock and Small Tortoiseshell.

Location: Meet at the car park for the Battle of Roundway/Roundway Hill Fort SU 0047 6478 (OS map 173). what3words: ///strategy.bleaching.brimmed. The car park is accessed from London Road in Devizes by turning onto Folly Road at the Travelodge. At the first fork in the road after approx 1km keep right. Half-way up the hill the road forks again, this time keep left. At the top of the hill the tarmac ends but keep going for approx 800m until the track turns sharp right. The car park is on the left on the bend.
The walk follows a fairly good path down a steep hill and then levels out. Be sure to bring robust footwear!
