The Species Champions Project was launched in Wales in 2016 by Wales Environment Link (WEL), to connect  Members of the Welsh Senedd to threatened species found in their constituency to adopt and champion them both within the Senedd and across Wales.

Four species of butterflies and moths in Wales, threatened by habitat loss, changing land management by humans and climate change have enthusiastic Champions - many thanks to all of them:

Mabon ap Gwynfor is our Species Champion for the Welsh Clearwing moth (see large photo above). He’s the Plaid Cymru MS for Dwyfor Meirionnydd.

Jane Hutt is our Species Champion for the High Brown Fritillary. She’s the Labour MS for the Vale of Glamorgan and first visited the last remaining site in Wales for this species, the Alun Valley, in 2017 .
