Forester by John Money

On this page you'll find current appeals for volunteers to help out with our work  in Wales.

Where are the Welsh Foresters?
Have you seen this striking iridescent green day-flying moth? The Forester moth (perhaps misnamed as it's found in grasslands too) are one of our priority species and we need to know more about where in Wales they are seen each year.

Please let us know if you've seen any - especially if you walk a Transect and see any there.

They fly from mid-May to July, in sunshine, and often feed on Ragged robin, clovers and scabious. It may be found in a variety of habitats: damp neutral grassland, limestone grassland, chalk downland,  sandy heathland, sand dunes, woodland rides and clearings. The moth larvae feed on Common Sorrel (Rumex acetosa) and  Sheep's Sorrel (Rumex acetosella).
