A medium-sized silvery grey moth which frequents mountain and moorland areas with rocky outcrops. The moth is nocturnal and is attracted to light traps, sometimes in large numbers.
The larvae can be seen from August to the following late May or June, feeding mainly at night. They pupate in a flimsy cocoon under moss, among rocks or just below the ground.

Heathers, Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), Heath Bedstraw (Galium saxitilis) and possibly other moorland plants.
Habitat
Mountains and moorlands with rocky outcrops. Despite occurring in rocky areas, it is not known to rest on rock outcrops during the day.

- Countries – Wales
- Nationally Scarce A. Only found in the northern half of Wales, from Plumlumon in the south to Penmaenmawr on the north coast. It is most common in rocky areas of Snowdonia.
