Hello and welcome to alert number 11- feels like an early summer now.

I've had reports today of Small Skipper and White Admiral , plus a report of what may have been a Silver-washed Fritillary. (They are out in Cambs) new brood Comma have joined tortoiseshell in emerging (and I found some second instar Small Tort caterpillars yesterday - which bodes well for the second brood) Painted Lady and Hummingbird Hawks in good numbers (along with Red Admirals)

 White Admiral



Species not yet definitely reported in Norfolk  are Silver-washed and Dark Green Fritillary, Purple and White-letter Hairstreak, Essex Skipper, Grayling and Chalk-hill Blue.

White-letter and Marbled White reported from Essex, Purple Emperor from Surrey, dark-green from many southern counties.

The next BC Field trip will be Beeston Common 17th June , then holme dunes 
on June 27th
Catfield open day 18th June
Cley Moth trap opening 9.30 29th June

Currently reported for Norfolk are: Swallowtail, Large, Small, Dingy and Grizzled Skipper, Large, Small and Green-veined Whites, Brimstone, Clouded Yellow, Orangetip, Holly Blue, Small Copper, Green Hairstreak, Common Blue, Silver-studded Blue, Brown Argus, Painted Lady, Small Tortoiseshell, Red Admiral. White Admiral, Peacock, Comma , Speckled Wood, Wall, Meadow Brown, Gatekeeper, Ringlet and Small Heath

Large Red, Red-eyed, Variable, Azure, Blue-tailed and Common Blue damselflies are flying in Norfolk, along with Hairy Dragonfly, Downy Emerald, Emperor, Lesser Emperor, Norfolk Hawker, Scarce, Broad-bodied and Four-spotted Chaser, Keeled and Black-tailed Skimmers, Red-veined Darter and Banded Demoiselle. (Ruddy darter reported from Suffolk!)
