Did you know that Moth Night is approaching? Organised by Atropos and Butterfly Conservation, Moth Night is the annual celebration of moth recording.

This year Moth Night is being held from 3rd - 5th July 2014 with the theme of Woodland Moths.Events will be held all over Britain and Ireland and one of those hosting an event in Cornwall will be Trenython Manor Hotel & Spa, a 22-bedroom hotel located within the beautiful grounds of a private 25 acre estate in Tywardreath. Set within the parkland and ancient woodland, there are also 37 self-catering lodges. The hotel won the Wildlife Friendly Business category at the 2013 annual Cornwall Tourism Awards, making it the perfect location to see moths in their natural setting.

Nick Waddington the Manager of Treython Manor said " I am passionate about moths and run a trap myself most evenings. Trenython is inviting local people to visit on the evening of Friday 4th July, a kind of Moth Independence Day, to share the Moth Night experience! This will be a great opportunity to raise awareness about these beautiful insects."

On site, we have a range of habitats, toilets, bar and power, so you can bring your own trap or team up with someone else to watch, learn and be amazed!

Jo Poland from Atropos is delighted that the hotel is celebrating Moth Night. She explains " There will be moth experts on hand for advice but no experience is necessary and everyone is welcome. We are so grateful to Trenython for opening their doors to the possiblities of Moth Night. Who knows what we might see?"

To attend, simply turn up any time from 7:30pm, park in the hotel main car park and go to the reception and you will be directed to the event. There will be books and literature to look at and people to talk to who will give you the benefit of their mothing experiences!  Live Moths should be seen from around 10pm. If that is too late for you, then come the next morning - the Moth traps will be opened at 9am.
