The caterpillar of the Comma butterfly is a great caterpillar with stripes and spikes to ward off predators and even some clever camouflage to look like bird poop droppings! If you've got any nettles growing in your garden or local outdoor space, take a look from the end of April (use some gloves for protection) and you may just find one eating away at the leaves.

Comma (caterpillar) - Paul Davis

To assemble your very own Clara the Conservation Caterpillar cake you will need:

  • A chocolate log or swiss roll (if you're feeling adventurous you could make your own)
  • Strawberry laces
  • Chocolate buttons
  • Some white icing (either shop bought or using icing sugar and a little water)
  • Round chocolate biscuits
  • White candy sticks or striped candy canes
  • Popping candy
  • Green royal icing (cut into leaf shapes for the base)
  • Some chocolate spread (for the sticking!)

Now it's time to get messy! Simply assemble your Clara Conservation Caterpillar using the chocolate spread to help stick your anatomy together, from the diagram below.
