Newcastle Upon Tyne

All our runners have been training hard for the big challenge, the Great North Run is a tough race but with the support of everyone in the Butterfly Conservation family we know that they will all fulfil lifetime ambitions and be able to say “They did it and achieved what they didn’t think was possible”.

Dr Amir Khan and Team BC are running the Great North Run to raise vital funds to enable BC to continue its work in restoring habitats, reversing species decline, and educating people on the importance of the natural world. We wish Dr Amir Khan and the team good luck with the race this September and look forward to cheering them over the finish line! Any donations to any of the Runner’s Just Giving Pages are gratefully received, read on to meet the runners:

"I’m very lucky to live and work in the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. Surrounded by lots of very good runners I’ve always lacked the confidence to race, worried of being the last one to roll in. When given the opportunity to join Butterfly Conservation’s Great North Run team this year I decided to challenge myself and enter my first road race. I will be well and truly out of my comfort zone and pushing myself whilst raising money for a great charity."

"I am not a natural runner so training for the GNR has been a huge challenge for me, but I am proud and excited to be running for a brilliant cause like Butterfly Conservation. I am a massive nature lover and work in the nature conservation sector, so as well as running further than I ever thought possible I have also been working on my butterfly ID for fun – it’s exciting to keep an eye out for species while running and a big motivational boost when I spot one! It’s a great feeling to know all of my hard work is going to result in something meaningful for species that really need our support."

"I'm delighted to be part of the BCT team at the GNR. Means I can combine my passion for the natural world with my love of running. I’m a regular volunteer with Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, helping to restore and protect habitats in very practical ways. Also been changing my own garden to be more diverse and pollinator friendly. Less mowing, more butterflies & bees!"
