Report on Field Trip to Mid Harling Heath

An excellent walk at Mid Harling.  14 of us enjoyed the lovely May sunshine, Skylarks were  singing and yellow hammers calling from the tops of the bushes.

There was an abundance of butterflies. Orange Tips, Common Blues, Small Heath, Brimstones, as well as Brown Argus, Painted lady, Green Hairstreak, Small Copper, Peacock and Large White. Various Moths including Mother Shipton posing as a Dingy Skipper!

The Wild Flowers were amazing and there were good patches of rock roses for the Brown Argus, also a lot of wild Strawberry, but no Grizzled Skippers. The Common Blues must have been using clover and Black Medic as I did not find any Birds Foot Trefoil, but  we counted 20 plus blues, male and females. Small Heaths, we counted in excess of 25 and Orange Tips 15 plus. Even Brimstones were in double figures at 10.

A most enjoyable morning.
